School Council notice board

We thought our School Council notice board was not being used well so we decided to do something about it! Now we have a list of things we would like to improve about our school and we will tick them when they are done. We also wanted to put on our 'Golden Rules' to help everyone be kind to each other. Another thing we did was to pin up pictures we had drawn to make it look nice.

Other good ways to use our board we be thought of soon. We hope you like it!

School council meeting - 22.1.14

Today we met to discuss a few issues.
  • First we decided that we should all have a book to write down things we need to do in between meetings as well as ideas from class-mates on how we can improve the school.
  • Next we decided that on our school council noticeboard we would show what we had talked about at our meeting so people can look there as well as on the blog to find out what we are up to. We also wanted to show possible ideas on how we can improve our school.
  • Finally we looked for the best place to locate our new noticeboard where children can write down names of children who they thought were being kind on the playgrounds. We decided that we will have a box in school where children could write the name of a child who is often unkind to them (being a bully) in case it is too difficult to tell an adult in school (or one of their 'friendly 5'). We talked to Mrs Crangle about these ideas and she will try hard to sort these out this week.

School Council Meeting - What is bullying?

Today some Year 6 buddies and Mrs Dentith talked to us about bullying. We discussed what bullying was. Children said it was from people who constantly were unkind to them, through words or being physically hurt (pushed, poked, hit etc.). We also talked about how we should tell someone if we saw it in school. This led us to talk about the 'friendly 5'; these are five people we might tell if somebody did something horrible to us.
'Friendly 5'

We decided we would meet again next week to talk about how children could use a noticeboard to write nice things about people who were kind to us. We will also think about ways to make sure children knew what to do if they were being bullied so we can always make our school a happy place to be.

In class, children should:
  • Know that if they are being bullied it is not their fault and they should tell someone.
  • Think about who their 'Friendly 5' could be.
