School Council Meeting: 16/12/14

During this meeting, Mrs Nevinson started to explain to the Council members about the new ICT curriculum (now called 'Computing') which involves coding and algorithms.

The School Council watched two videos about the new 'Computing' curriculum to help them understand how you use coding to create computer programmes.  The aim is to help create a generation of people who do not just play computer games but create them.

The School Council Representatives also looked at a website www.learn.code.org and were asked to share this website with their class members so that children can visit it in their own free time.  If children visit this website, they may wish to sign up to the 'hour of code'.

In the second part of the meeting, Mr Lee explained that the school is interested in developing the 'sloping bank' adjacent to the Top Playground, so that we can make better use of the space in this area.  We discussed ideas such as tree houses, rope ladders, tunnels and quiet places for small group work and break times.

The School Council were then asked to discuss ideas within their classes after Christmas
(13-01-15), write the suggestions into their blue books and then bring them to the next School Council meeting in the New Year so that they can be collated and passed on to Mr Banwell.

All of the School Council are very excited about the opportunity to help make changes to the school grounds and are eager to see what happens to the 'sloping bank' in the future.
