Minutes:

  • Mr Lee opened the meeting and started introducing ideas that have been gathered from everyone regarding ideas for future Sports Days.

  • Reception then came up with a list of ideas: running races, sack races, rocket throws, balancing a bean bag on head races, egg and spoon races, jumping over cone races and bow and arrow competitions.

  • We then discussed what people did not enjoy and wanted to get rid: the sprinting race (some children felt awkward) and in Year 6 some people didn’t like the sack race because the sacks were too small.  We will try and discuss solutions to these problems in the future.

  • Mr Lee suggested some ideas about perhaps having a week before Sports Day of sporting activities such as; each year group doing an activity and gaining points which will go towards the Sports Day final scores and this may eliminate the possibility of some people competing against the same people in many events on Sports Day. The council had a thumbs up/down sign to gauge people’s reactions; the majority were for this idea.

  • The council also suggested other events which were as follows: long jump for KS1 (hop, skip and jump), balloon races, skipping races KS2, speed bounce, dribbling a ball, wheel barrow races, apple bobbing, cycling, biathlon (cycling and running), cross country running, balancing beams, target events, ultimate Frisbee, javelin for KS1, teamwork events (drainpipe and ball), dance races, three-legged races, leap frog, obstacle courses, tunnels, hoops over stumps, shuttlecock throwing and water filling races.  It was explained that not all of these ideas would be feasible but that the PE Coordinators would consider all of the options.

  • Other ideas for the day were the joker card (a Year 6 team captain holds a joker card which doubles points for an event which can only be used once, refreshments  for the parents (food stand etc) and house names for teams instead of colours.

  • Mr Lee thanked everyone for their wonderful ideas to make Sports Day competitive, enjoyable and fun!

      Action:

  • Mr Lee will put the minutes on the school blog.
  • Miss Wyman and Mr Strick will discuss the ideas given.
  • Next School Council meeting will be a week after half-term – Date TBA.
